I transcribed the following for the benefit of anyone who might find it
interesting. Let me know if you are familiar with any of the people in
this nice sketch done by my great great aunt Dossie Byrket (aka Leudoska
Benbow Byrket) This goes with my earlier note a few minutes ago about
her and her husband Brazilla G. WALL, who was the uncle of my great
grandfather, William F. Walls. Susannah Presnall Lindamood Walls would
have been a 2nd cousin, once removed, to his wife Josie Benbow whose
mother was Mary Modlin. I believe Susan and Brazilla met in the Quaker
meetinghouse at Clear Spring in Henry County, IN.
Regards,
Tim Walls
FROM Notes by Leudoska Benbow Byrket, now in the possession of Tim
Walls:
(transcribed Jan. 24, 2001 by TWW)
"On the afternoon of Feb. 24, 1931, I visited
Susannah Walls, a granddaughter of Daniel
and Pleasant Modlin Presnall, and asked
her some questions concerning these people;
Pleasant was a sister to my great grand
father George Modlin. Susanna, above
was a daughter of their son Daniel
and Catherine Munden P. his wife, and
was born Sep. 8- 1848. She said her
sister Mary Jane Collins, Joseph C. Collins
mother was about 3 yrs. younger than
she, also said that her brother Elijahs
daughter Myrtle had the old family Bible
that contained names and dates of their
family. (Bible torn up- Myrtle said.) Catherine Munden was a dau-
of Elijah Munden and his first wife whose surname was Nixon and first
name she thought was Elizabeth ? (Jane.) His
second wife was Jane Brown. (grand parents
of Mrs. James Wilson here) Mahala Muden a
sister to Catherine married Nathan Presnall
bro. to Daniel. Susanna remembered
seeing her grandmother Pleasant, said she
was a small woman and that she died
when she, Susanna, was 7 or 8 yrs old, and
(making her death about 1856) was buried
at Clear Spring as was Daniel her husband.
That was her memory of it at least.
She said Daniel died during the Civil War
as she remembered going to her Aunt
Nancy Comptons to hear about the war and
seeing him and he died during that time
Nancy was a sister to her father Daniel.
Susanna said that Henry Hinshaws first
wife Pleasant Jane was named for
Pleasant Modlin Presnall her grandmother.
The little visit with Susanna Walls was
an inspiration, as she told of her faith
and trust in her heavenly father and
her delight in reading the Bible. She
reminded me so mcuh of my own dear
mother, her talk more like her than
anyone I have seen since mothers death.
She has high blood pressure and a bad
heart and it tired her to talk but she
was cheerful and made no complaint.
She was braiding rags and making a
really beautiful rug, her arrangement
of colors was artistic. I felt like I had
been inside the inner circle during
my little visit there. She reads the Bible
and prays every day, a bright woman
intelligent and a christian who will help
all who came in contact with her. "
