Regarding slavery in Harrison County, FYI in I believe 1820, I find an
ancestor listed on the census as owning five slaves.
I'm interesting in anyone researching the White family of Harrison County.
Specifically, I am investigating Jesse, his sons John James and Jacob.
There was also a John who was not the same as John James. Am trying to
place various Whites in the proper families; ie my ancestor, Phoebe White who
married Jesse Baker Inman, and (I think) her sister Mary Ann who married
John Lane. I have wills and probate records (late 1830s)of Jesse and John
James and various petitions by Jacob, as well as deeds. I think Phoebe and
Mary Ann were sisters of John James, but they are not listed in Jesse's
will. Do not know who John (present in 1850) belongs to, as John James only
mentions in his will his wife Elizabeth (Matheny) and their two small girls,
Mary and Susan. Mary and Susan later are living with Phoebe and others. If
you are a White researcher, please e-mail me at _JerryABarb(a)aol.com_
