AGED MAN IS NEARLY DEAD WHEN FOUND IN BARBED WIRE FENCE
Corydon, Indiana, June 4-Monroe Alstott, aged 73, was almost dead when he
was found yesterday entangled in a barbed wire fence near here where he had
been for two days and two nights. Part of the time he was in a heavy rain.
Weakness prevented him from disentangling himself.
Mr. Alsott left the home of Mrs. Milton Barrow, his daughter, three miles
north of Corydon, to walk to Pennington Chapel to attend Memorial Day
services Sunday, expecting to go from the services to the home of John
Alsott, his son. Telephone communication between the two homes was
interrupted for two days and, when it was re-established yesterday, the
families learned that the aged man was missing.
Mr. Barrow found Mr. Alstott entangled in the fence, his head and part of
his body resting on the ground. He was unconscious and still is in a
serious condition. Mr. Alstott is a farmer and nurseryman.
