Sue,
the 1860 Harrison Co Indiana census I located one James and Mary Earl given as born in
Kentucky. They were in Boon Twp page 112 (written) and page 264 stamped, line 20 dwell 771
fam 754. If this is the James and Mary Earl(s) you refer in your query, I did not see a
daughter Elizabeth. However, this reference couple James was 22 and Mary was 23 and the
census indicated they were married in the census year.
I checked the Indiana Trails for Harrison County website:
http://genealogytrails.com/ind/harrison/index.html
that has transcribed marriages for Harrison County marriages and there were no entries for
Earl/Earls. This may help you decide where to go from there/here. There were a
concentration of Earl/Earls in the Decatur County IN area in 1860 and that may be a place
for you to consider. The James Earl cited above was given an occupation of
"Engineer" that may also be a clue for you such as was he moving around quite a
bit to for 'the job'. Good luck on your search.

James and Mary Earls living on the 1860 census for harrison co. Ind census. both born in
KY. Can anyone tell me if they got married in Indiana. And what Marys last name was. And
if there are birth records for Harrison co. for 1858. They had a daughter Elizabeth born
in Indiana but if she was born in 1858 she is not on the census record.
Thanks
Sue
