Hi Jesse,
Thank you for the response. When I first started my research years ago, I did look at the
line that led to Michael Reagan and Nancy O'Connell but I couldn't find any proof
that they had a son named Amos so I put the idea on the backburner.
My 3rd great grandfather Hiram Reagan (son of Amos) has the middle name
"Connell", so that's another thing that led me to believe he might have a
connection to Nancy O'Connell .
I have been to Harrison County twice to do research on the Reagan's and found nothing
on Amos or wife Phoebe at all. There are plenty of records for Amos's son Hiram and
his descendants, but nothing about Amos.
I do wonder if Amos and wife Phoebe could be buried at the Old Mauckport Cemetery. I am
told that the original burial records do not exist and that there are many unmarked graves
there with headstones destroyed by the Ohio River flood years ago. It's just so
strange that they completely disappeared from all records after 1817 when Amos Reagan sold
"property goods and chattels" to John Brown in Heth, Harrison County (I myself
was unable to find this deed in Harrison County, but apparently the late researcher
Marguerite Write Ang had a copy). Perhaps Amos sold everything in 1817 and left Indiana?
Thomas De la Hunt, Jr. certainly sounds like a reputable researcher and historian. Amos
had a daughter named Rebecca Reagan (who married William E. Miller), so perhaps he named
her after his sister?
It's an ongoing joke in our Reagan family that no Reagans go by their given names, but
instead made up their own or went by nicknames. Perhaps Amos when by a different name
sometimes?
I noticed that there is a Zachariah Reagan that appears on the 1840 Harrison County,
Indiana, but I have been unable to prove any connection between him and any other Reagans
in my line.
I can email you a PDF file of my "Descendants of Amos Reagan" file, but of Amos
himself I have very little information.
Thanks,
Erika
