Riverboat information:
In Dec. 1990 National Gen. Society Quarterly, a good article on western
rivers, sources etc. I believe there is a collection in the library of
New Albany, may be wrong there; Inland Rivers collections- Cincinnati
Library
Organization: Sons and Daughters of Pioneer Rivermen: Steamship
Historical Society of America - library is located at U. of Baltimore.
and Midwest Riverboat Buffs- (focus is on upper Mississippi.
Don't they sound intriguing? (Maybe check cyndi's list).

Thank you for the information on steamboats. I assumed steamboats
too; but I am hoping that there might be a written historical
