Built in 1914 on the corner of W. Beaver and N. Oak Sts., with the help
of the
Carnegie grant, the first Librarian in the new facility was Mrs. Lula
Reising.
In 1916 and for the next 41 years, Mrs. Georgia S. Fisher was the head
librarian
and her assistant when she assumed the post was mrs. Daisy Lamon.
Mrs. Georgia's father, Strother M. Stockslager, was a former Editor and
owner
of The Corydon Democrat (1877-1881). he later served as U.S.
Congressman and
also Commissions of U.S. Land Office.
An article written on Mrs. Georgia in 1940 said, "She is an interesting
conversationist
on many subjects, enjoys her work as Librarian and as for her
recreation, enjoys
a good game of contract bridge!"
following Mrs. Georgia in 1957 as Head Librarian was Mrs. Robert
(Rosamond
O'Bannon) Sample.
