Hello Beverlee,
Thank you for responding to my inquiry.
I am very interested in your information on Jacob Rooksberry.
First of all, let me tell you that my maiden name is ROOKSBY. I grew up in
Rochester. New York daughter of Robert and Evelyn Rooksby. Robert's parents
were Norman Earl and Edna (Wiese) Rooksby, who was born in Charlotte, New
York (suburb of Rochester), only son of Walton James and Gertrude (Pomeroy)
Rooksby (one of 12 children) son of George and Jane (Brown) of Campbellford,
Ontario, Canada, son of William and Elizabeth Rooksby of
Wellingborough/Irthlingborough area of Northamptonshire, England.
Since my search began I have been in touch with Robert Trent Rooksby of
Carmel, Indiana and Robert Rooksby of Thornhill, Ontario, Canada. Indiana
Robert had many of the same stories I grew up with and Canadian Robert's
mother's family came from the same area in Canada. The three of us have
been working on and off since 1998 to find our connection.
Indiana Robert tells me his research goes back to 3 brothers from Kentucky
for his line. One brother went to Indiana; one to the mid-west where there
are Illinois Rooksbys and one to California. Believe the brothers to be
Jacob, Samuel and James.
Canadian Robert's family pretty much stayed in Canada with Robert's brother
William now living in Saskatchewan, Canada.
For my Rooksby's some stayed home in Canada and some ventured into the
states. The oldest son, William died in Canada and I have found no
reference to any marriage. The two oldest daughters Jane and Eliza died in
their late twenty's as spinsters. Fourth child Samuel, I have found no
information on him. Fifth child Smith, went to Michigan and farmed. He was
married twice with a son Arthur from the first marriage. Sixth child Robert
stayed in Canada and again, no known marriage. Seventh child Ambrose I
believe went to Wisconsin. Eighth child Arthur I believe went to Colorado.
Ninth was Walton James (my great grandfather). Tenth child Margaret married
and stayed in Canada. Eleventh child Mary moved to Rochester, NY for a
short time, but married and where she ended up I don't know. Twelfth and
last child Francis (Frank) stayed in Canada and to my knowledge never
married.
I wanted to give you the background of some of our research and now how the
name Rooksberry connects to my family. It may be a clerical error, but my
2nd great grandfather George and his two daughters are buried in a cemetery
in Campbellford, Ontario, Canada. Actually I believe most of the other
Canadian Rookbys are there as well, just no actual proof. The church
records and the official Canadian state records record George, Eliza and
Jane's last name as Rooksberry instead of Rooksby. The grave monument
clearly says Rooksby.
My search for my direct line in England has hit a stop so I've now looking
at the other families to see how I can connect them. I have come across
many references to Jacob and Samuel and a lot of James with the various
surname spellings of Rooksby - Rooksberry and Rooksbury. So wonder if
there are connections?
Would be happy to email you copies of my research and see if there's any
possible connection. Hope to here from you soon.

I have quite a bit of information on this name. Jacob Rooksberry fought in
the Revolutionary War and died in Jefferson Co, KY. I have information on
his children and who they married and on his parents. Would be interested in
comparing notes. My ancestor is Mary Ann Rooksberry, his daughter.
