Looking for help in tying down Millers in Spencer Co. First is William
Miller who shows up as age 75 from Pa. in 1850 census with wife Ruth age 77
from Ind. Some children are identified in 1850's court case i.e. Abner,
Samuel, James, John, Margaret Cruse and Ruth Presser. I believe he is same
Wm. Miller and wife Ruth who sold property in Nelson Co., Ky. in
1811----listing their residence as Harrison Co., Indiana Territory. The
1810 Nelson Co.census showed Wm. and Ruth with 7 sons and 1 daughter. There
are deed references in Spencer Co. of property on Clear Creek.
Next is John J. Miller. Per estate settlement records in Spencer Co. he
died 2/20/1843 and other Millers listed were Nelson and Christina. Beverly
Hurst is also mentioned. Now, I find a John J. Miller who married Elizabeth
Hurst (d/o Henry Hurst) 10/30/1815 in Harrison Co., Ind. There is a John
J. Miller buried at St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery in Harrison Co. with
death date of 11/19/1843. Could these be the same John J. Millers with one
of the death dates off a little?
I have John H. and Elizabeth (Betty) Harris who came to Spencer Co. from
Marion Co., Ky. 1836/7. John died 11/6/1854 and Elizabeth died
2/1878.....both are buried Mt. Zion Cemetery, Santa Claus. Elizabeth was
d/o my David Miller who came to Nelson Co., Ky. in 1796 from Pa. and died
1848 in Marion Co., Ky. I am trying to determine if other children of David
settled in southern Indiana.
Any input on these or other Millers in Spencer/Warrick Co. would be
appreciated.
Art Miller, Louisville
