Kristy:
Thanks for posting the query about your Henry Brown.
We are interested in identifying all of the Brown families in Harrison County
and Crawford County Indiana in 1820, 1830, & 1840.
We think that some of them may be brothers and sisters,
I have not specifically found your Henry Brown in Harrison County in 1840,
but
I find a Henry Brown listed as head of Household in 1820, 1830 and 1840.
The numbers appear consistent enough for these to all be the same family.
This Henry Brown lives in an area with other Brown families in close
proximity, such as Frederick, George, Benjamin, and Daniel
We'd surely like to connect them
Henry Brown - Harrison County 1820
2 male under 5
1 male age 10-16
1 male age 16-26
1 female under 10
1 female age 16-26
Henry Brown - Harrison County 1830:
1 male under 5
2 males age 10-15
1 male age 30-40
2 females age 5-10
1 female age 15-20
1 female age 40-50
Henry Brown - Harrison County 1840
2 males age 20-30
1 male age 50-60
2 females age 15-20
1 female age 50-60
This Henry is older than your Henry Brown, but, of course, it's possible that
he might have been from this family; indeed, these might be his parents and
siblings.
How did you know that your Henry lived in Harrison County in 1840?
Many of the Browns in this area came directly from the Shenandoah Valley of
Virginia, but some also migrated via Tennessee, for some reason.
My anecdotal records indicate that Charlotte Payton was born about 1812, in
Knox County TN, the daughter of Leroy Payton (1788 TN) and Nancy Smith (1790
VA).
We are assembling a lot of information, but it's still not very organized.
What ever happened to your Henry and his family? Some of these Harrison
County Browns migrated to northern Illinois in the 1840s. Did your Henry do
the same?
I would very much appreciate knowing the names of his children, and where
they were born, if possible. Please let me hear more from you.
