Betty:
I am researching COOK and DENTON in Harrison and Knox counties. My
Great-great grandfather Richard Cook Sr.'s second wife was Catherine
Stoneciper or Stonecipher (have seen it both ways) of Corydon. I have a
lot of information on the Cooks and other relatives in that area. Wondered
how Catherine might be connected to your Stoneciphers.
--------------------------------------------
Richard Cook Sr. married Elizabeth Buckles October 23, 1832 in Hardin County
Kentucky. Richard would have been 25 and Elizabeth 14 years of age. She
was born and raised in Kentucky. According to the 1830 census Richard's
family did not own slaves; the Buckles family owned 4 slaves.Richard and
Elizabeth, her father John Buckles and her brother Abraham moved near
Corydon, Indiana in Harrison County sometime between their marriage in 1832
and the 1840 census. They settled on land about 2 1/2 miles north of Corydon
on Indian Creek. Richard Sr. was blacksmith and excellent mechanic. While
he worked his shop, Abraham, Elizabeth's brother, worked the farm. Richard
and Elizabeth had four children, Charlotte, Abraham, Joseph and Richard Jr.
In his prime, he was a man of considerable means, acquiring other land in
Spencer Township. That part of the county was referred to as the Barrens.
In the 1850 census, Richard is listed as being a blacksmith and the value of
his real estate was $3000.00. In the 1860 census, he is listed as a farmer
and his real estate valued at $10,000. As each of their children got
married, Richard and Elizabeth gave them land to farm. Elizabeth died after
1870. She is listed on the 1870 census and Richard was remarried in 1876 to
a Catherine Stoneciper. Richard wrote his will in August 1878 and died
sometime that fall or early winter.

Hello List,
I'm trying to connect the STONECIPHER families in Harrison Co.,Indiana. Most
seem to have lived in Corydon. I have a lot of information but want to share
information with someone else that may be able to fill in some blanks.
