Dave: As you may know, the two brothers Henry and William Rafferty, along
with their wives and some of their children, are buried at Hancock's Chapel.
My gg grandfather John Hancock, settled in Blue River Township in 1819 and
established the Hancock Settlement. Hancock's Chapel was built in 1820. Henry
and William married two Hancock sisters, daughters of John Hancock, Jr. and
Martha Haywood King. According to cemetery records, Henry was born 18 Sep
1817 and died 18 Nov 1865. William was born 1819 and died 1870. Henry was
married to Mary 18 Jan 1845; William was married to Jane 15 Feb 1847.
I did my research in Harrison County many years ago. I have copies of
the 1860 census, which I copied from film at the National Archives, about 20
years ago. Apparently the film was good enough that I took down the
information on all the Hancock households. Unfortunately, I did not record
the Rafferty households. I do not have information on any of the children.
But if you are just trying to establish Henry's presence in the county in
1860, the cemetery records should do it.
