1812 - The FRENCH and ELLEDGE families were neighbors in Kentucky and both families moved
about the same time (just prior to the War of 1812) across the Ohio river into the
Territory of Indiana, locating in Harrison county, and near New Albany.
1815 - Amanda FRENCH born. “Amanda FRENCH, who married two of the ELLEDGEs, belonged to a
family that experienced many hardships in the pioneer days of Kentucky, where her
forebears engaged in many a bloody affray with the Indians. The families of ELLEDGE and
FRENCH intermarried in a very early day. In Pioneer Families of Missouri is a record of
Joseph ELLEDGE (a brother of Francis ELLDGE who married Charity BOONE) and Sally A.
FRENCH, a daughter of William FRENCH of South Carolina, who was either a brother or uncle
of Paul FRENCH, father of Amanda. William FRENCH died and his widow and her children
removed to Warren county, East Tennessee, in 1795, some of the children later marrying and
settling in Callaway county, Misouri, in the Boone, Scholl and Callaway settlement.”

1842 - The Porbate of John S. FRENCH:
Paul FRENCH, the Probate (1842) of John S. FRENCH, was a witness on two documents. He was
the witness to Pamelia FRENCH giving up her right to administrate the Probate of her
husband John S. FRENCH and giving that right to Jesse LESTER and Milo FRENCH. 16 May 1842.
A note from Jesse LESTER and Milo FRENCH, administrators, to Pamelia FRENCH, receiving
described property (personal items, not land), her X for a signature, and Paul FRENCH a
witness. 7 Jun 1842.
Jacob L. FRENCH, another son (proven) of Paul FRENCH, witnessed another document in the
Probate of John S. FRENCH. 30 May 1842.
1843 - “He and his good wife were brought to this State by their son Jacob in 1843, and
after spending some time on a farm removed to Milton, where both died.” note this date is
incorrect as Paul was Pike county in the 1840 US Census. Paul and Lucy FRENCH are not in
the 1850 US Census and must of died between 1842 and 1850. gjb Mar 2003
