I'd like to butt in and ask if any of you know if these Martin's are connected to
the Martin's in Jay County?

Subject: [INHANCOC] Bennetts and Martins
Mary (Polly) Ann Knight (1836-1912) married her first cousin William J.
Bennett (1835-1912) in 1858 in Hancock County. They were both born in Harrison
County, VA, and Polly came to Indiana with her parents, Isaac and Polly
(Plummer) Knight, about 1840. William and his brother Franklin evidently came to
Hancock County in the late 1850s, at least Franklin also married Polly's
sister Margaret in 1857.
Their eldest daughter Margaret Adelia Bennett (1862-1945) married Albarian
Martin (1855-1911) in 1882 in Hancock County. They lived in Hamilton County
for many years but are both buried in Curry's Chapel Cemetery. Eliza A.
Martin (1850-1929) married Richard Barrett (1842-1899) in 1866 in Hancock County,
and lived on a farm just north of Bill and Polly Bennett, on the next road
east of Curry's Chapel road. They are both buried at the Chapel too. Mary
Martin, b about 1853, married John Bailey Knight (1848-1920) but don't have a
date for that marriage. They lived in Wilkinson for many years.
Richard Barrett was the son of Samuel Barrett and Charlotte Curry. His
sister Sarah (1843-1871) married Washington Stephens in Hancock County in 1862,
and their son Samuel Barrett Stephens (1864-1936) married Rosa Lee Bennett,
daughter of Bill and Polly Bennett, in Hancock County in 1888, and were my
great-grandparents. So all these Curry Chapel families were really intermingled,
as if we didn't know!
I have pictures of Albarian and Adelia Martin and (I believe) John B. and
Mary Knight, that I will send to you as an attachment if you'd like them,
Carolyn. Thanks! Len Kling
