An Attempt at Grave Robbery
On Thursday night last an attempt was made to steal the body of the
late Mrs. Simeon Dennis, who was buried at the Shiloh cemetery,
southeast of this city. On Friday morning the grave was found to have
been disturbed and on closer investigation, the head and face of Mrs.
Dennis could be seen, which were covered with dirt. It is supposed that
the grave robbers were frightened away before they had time to remove
the body, and then leaving the grave as it was found, the body was
exhumed, washed and dressed again and buried on Friday. This business of
robbing graves is getting to be too common around these parts, and we
hope a few buckshot may have the desired effect on such thieves.
