Obituary
The angel of death has visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meier
and taken from their midst their youngest daughter, Bertha. She was born
August 28, 1894 and died February 14th, 1896, being permitted to stay on
this earth but one year, 5 months and sixteen days. While but a bud,
she has been called away to blossom in heaven. It seems so hard to give
her up, yet we should be comforted for God knows best. After a short
service at the house her remains were taken the the Cumberland German
church, where services were conducted by Rev. Kruegar, after which the
remains were interred in the German cemetery.
[typist note: there are two "the" together before Cumberland German
church. This is the way the newspaper article reads. She is buried at
St. Johns United Church of Christ, 11000 E. Washington Street in
Cumberland. Her headstone reads; Bertha C. N. Meier. She is in lot # 41
grave #1.
