"Death of An Old Citizen"
Mr. Leander Walker, an old and highly respected citizen of this city, died
at his home on South Street on Friday a.m. last at 5 o'clock. Mr. Walker
had been in poor health for a number of years. He was born in Milton, Indiana
and was 62 years old.
During the War, he enlisted in Company I, 54th Indiana Volunteers and came
out with a splendid record as a soldier.
Mr. Walker leaves two sons and a wife to mourn his death. He died of catarrh
of the stomach and bowels. He was a prominent member of the IOOF Lodge
who conducted the funeral services Sunday. Mr. Walker was the noble type
of man and had friends by the score in all walks of life.
