Subject: Black & Wright family in Clark Co. IL
In the 1860 Clark Co. census, there is a George & Dicey (Wright) Black living next to
my 3rd gr grandparents, James & Lucinda (McComas) Wright. I believe this Dicey is a
daughter to James & Lucinda & she is obviously George's 2nd wife. The first
wife was Ethelinda Clements by whom he had 3 (maybe 4) sons, John, Samuel & Reuben.
The children of Geo & Dicey were Margaret Ann, Geo W. & Henry G. Black. There was
also an Isaac Newton Black, who because of the timing, could have belonged to either wife
(I don't have Ethelinda's death date but the marr date to Dicey was 07-20-1854).
These Wrights had earlier settled in Jasper Co. IL but I don't know if they moved or
the county lines changed.
If anyone on the list is researching this family, or the Black family of this area, please
post where they were from & also, any info regarding the connection to this Wright
family will be appreciated. My Wrights had come to IL from Rush/Henry/Wayne Co. IN &
were from VA originally. The McComas' were from Cabell & Giles Co. VA/WV. They
were very involved with the M.E. denomination. Both James Wright & his father, Reuben
Wright were ministers. Reuben was co-pastor of a church in Knightstown, IN & James
was a "circuit-rider" minister in IN & IL.
Thank you,
