Hello,
I'm trying to get more info on other descendants of my 4th g-grandfather Andrew S.
McGahey Sr, and maybe see if anyone out there has info to fill in some gaps.
The first two generations are as follows:
1 Andrew S. McGahey b: January 03, 1784 in Kentucky d: December 22, 1855 in New
Palestine, Indiana
.. +Elizabeth Murnan b: November 03, 1808 in Kentucky m: January 01, 1829 in Franklin
county, Indiana d: January 10, 1863 in New Palestine, Indiana
. 2 James McGahey b: November 28, 1831 in Indiana d: October 04, 1844 in New
Palestine, Indiana
. 2 Jane McGahey b: November 10, 1833 in Indiana d: July 13, 1920
..... +Thomas Arthur b: March 16, 1828 in Ohio m: February 19, 1849 in Hancock
county, Indiana d: January 18, 1881 in Indiana
. 2 Michael McGahey b: July 08, 1834 in Indiana d: October 18, 1841 in New Palestine,
Indiana
. 2 Mary McGahey b: Abt. 1839 in Indiana d: Aft. 1860
. 2 Sarah A. McGahey b: August 1841 in Indiana d: Aft. 1900
..... +William H. Moore b: 1835 in Indiana m: April 09, 1863 in Hancock county,
Indiana d: Bet. 1880 - 1990 in Indiana
. 2 Margaret McGahey b: November 10, 1843 in Indiana d: February 18, 1863 in New
Palestine, Indiana (never married)
. 2 Andrew S. McGahey {Jr.} b: January 07, 1846 in Indiana d: October 26, 1864 in
Nashville, Tennesee
All the male McGahey children died either young or without issue (Andrew Jr. died due to
wounds sustained in Civil War battle).
My ancestor is Jane McGahey Arthur, for whom I have lots of descendant information.
I've just recently discovered the marriage of Sarah McGahey to William H. Moore, and
have traced some of their children.
My big question right now is, what happened to Mary McGahey? There is another marriage
of a William Moore (no "H." listed) to a Mary McGaughey in Hancock county in
1860. My Mary is still living with her mother and sisters in the 1860 census, and I
can't find her in 1870, which means to me she either died, or married. Does anyone
out there have more info on the Mary McGaughey who married the William Moore in 1860?
I'm wondering if this is my Mary and the same William who 3 years later marries her
sister Sarah? So far I haven't found William in the 1860 census.
Any help or insight is appreciated!
Thank you,
Jill Arthur Barry
