I am researching the above families in that area of IN. Have a photo, found in an antique
shop, of Henry McComas, of Hancock Co. Will be glad to send a copy to anyone interested.
My 4th gr grandmother was Dicey (Napier) McComas whom I found in Rush Co. in the 1830
census under the name of "Dicea M. Comus." She was living close to a Nathaniel
McComas. Dicey was the widow of Wm McComas (d abt 1817, IL) & the mother of my
Lucinda who married James Wright in Rush Co. in 1830.
James was the son of Rev. Reuben & Joanna/Anna (Gilbert) Wright from
Brunswick/Surry/Sussex Co. VA originally. James & Lucinda moved on over to Jasper
Co. IL in abt 1840 where he was also a M.E. minister.
I was told several years ago that an Amos McComas was one of the first settlers in Rush
Co. so that might have been the reason Dicey took her dau & 3 sons over to IN.
One of the daus of Reuben & Joanna Wright was Margaret, who marr Thos B. Miller &
they lived their lives in Hancock Co. Another child was (I think) David G. Wright, whom
I've also found in Hancock Co. A son, Geo W. Wright lived in Noble Co. IN.
Some of these names moved on down south to Texas Co. MO where I found my Lucinda (McComas)
Wright (age 93) living with a Charles F. Osborn & Mary (Wright) Osborn family in 1910
census. Mary was the dau of George W. Wright.
Reuben & Joanna Wright were in the 1850 census in Wayne Co. IN where they probably
died. James Wright died abt 1865 but I don't know how or where.
I have more info on all of these folks & families as well as old photos to share.
Please post any info or contact me at deae(a)consolidated.net.
Thank you,
