Happy Holidays!
I am looking for any additional info anyone might have on Elizabeth MURNAN,
daughter of Michael MURNAN. She was born in Kentucky, and died in New
Palestine Indiana on 10 Jan 1863. She was my gggg-grandmother.
I've found some clues from various places that Michael MURNAN and his
brother Jacob (who both supposedly settled in New Palestine) were the sons
of John MURNAN of Cold Springs Kentucky. And that this John MURNAN was the
same man who was a French soldier who fought here in the Rev. War and was
born Jean Bernard de MURNAN. I just wondering if anyone has any of these
people in their lines and could corroberate this info.
Ditto for info on Elizabeth's mother - I've found her mother listed as Jane
SIMPSON, and in one case that Jane was a sister of Hannah SIMPSON, who was
the mother of Ulysses S. GRANT. (This would make my Elizabeth a first
cousin to Grant). I've tried to do a little "tracking backward" from
Grant,
but so far only one posting I've found shows Jane as a sister of Hannah.
I'm hoping someone close to the area of New Palestine might have some info
on this. I know that there are still a number of Murnans in the area -
though whether also descendants of Michael or of Jacob or other brothers I
don't know. Supposedly some also settled in Shelby county as well.
I do know that my ARTHUR line seems to have married into just about every
other family in the Hancock county area! (And I understand that - I grew up
in a rural part of Michigan where everyone was related to each other).
Right now I trying to concentrate on Elizabeth, who married Andrew S.
MCGAHEY Sr. Their marriage record lists the surname as MANAN, but I've been
told it was actually MURNAN. As near as I can tell, Jacob also had a
daughter Elizabeth, and that is the one that married Washington CONES. Any
additional info on either of these lines, MURNAN or SIMPSON, would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
