Gerald, There is an orchard just off Brookville road in Sugar Creek Twp. called Anderson
Orchard. I think its on County Line Rd. (800 West or Carrol Rd.) You might want to
contact Dave Mikkelson. He lives in a historic home on Brookville Rd. Dave and his wife
have researched the road in an effort to preserver it. mikkelson(a)iquest.net

Anderson and several other family members came to Hancock Sugar Creek Indiana, One of the
first things they did was to get started the building of a new road from New Palestine on
the Brookville Road to New Bethel on the Michigan State road, it was known as the Tuttle
Road and was still as far as early 1900's, I am not sure about now. Then Tuttle and
Anderson built a Saw Mill run by Steam which was the first of it's kind in the County,
It was operated by Thomas Conant Tuttle & Mr. Brown Anderson, Then came the Swamp
School House, Built ,Equipped and run by Thomas Conant Tuttle, Mr. Barnard & a John A.
Leonard,The school was maintained for 5 years by these men as a free school the first free
school in Indiana, But with the
inaugural of The Indiana Free School System!
in 1856, This School House and property passed to the School Township of Sugar Creek with
no Recompense to the original owners, Mr. Tuttle was Honored by a visit by The
Indiana's Governor and committee from The State legislator, Investigating the
workability and success of this school previous to the passage to enrollment of the
Indiana School law, Oliver P Morton, Indiana's war Governor 1860-1864 frequently
called on Mr. Tuttle ,asking for solutions, and advices to the directing of the Home Guards
which Mr. Tuttle was Captain of, On the sixth day of October 1873, Accident caused by the
infraction of a Team of horses,Killed Thomas Conant Tuttle, This happened on The Old
Michigan State Road about 6 miles southeast of Indianapolis, He left behind His wife
Elizabeth Francis Anderson, she was born May 20th, 1818 I think or 1810 and his children.
This information was taken from a letter written by My Ancestor Alva Maurice Tuttle,
Author of "The Tuttle Tuthill Lines in America!
" , along with a compilation of letters written to Thomas Conant Tuttl
e by his Mother Hannah Jane Elder and to and from His Brothers.and his son Thomas C
Tuttle, I am trying to find out more stories on this family I have quite a bit on The
Tuttle side but not much on The Anderson Side,I am also looking for a Picture of Thomas C
Tuttle and his father Thomas Conant Tuttle and Mother ,there is a Tin Type photo out there
somewhere that the family of Noble Harris , Leon Davis and
Mary Tuttle Davis, Alva says that this family had these photos some of the info of the
above story came from a Tuttle reunion where a pamphlet was handed out ,Most of it is true
but some which I did not type out, is untrue, I am not sure where The Tuttle's and
Andersons came from when they moved to Sugar Creek I believe it was Ohio which is where
Thomas Conant Tuttle served aboard the Steamboats for 18 years he also was a sailor among
the east coast from Maine until he found his way to the Steamboats, His father and Mother
were from Bangor Maine, Josiah, Thomas Conants father died in Bangor, I am trying to find
out where he is buried there in Bangor, if anybody can verify or add to this story or sees
people they have heard of mentioned in the above please contact me . Bye 4 now
