An article entitled, "LARGE ESTATE TO HIS FAMILY, Will of Samuel M. Addison
is Probated Together with its Three Codicils", provides the following information:
The Last Will and Testament of Samuel M. Addison was made June 2, 1917,
witnessed by Sylvanus C. Staley and George W. Sewerwine, and was the focus
of the article. Mr. Addison was noted to be late of Wilkinson and his will
"has been probated."
"After providing that the wife have all the real estate her lifetime, Mr.
Addison willed that at her death 40 acres go to his daughter, Lena Walker;
to a son, John W. Addison, 40 acres; to a daughter, Mary J. McCray, his
residence in Wilkinson and $500; to a daughter, Nancy A. Bridges, 40 acres
and the gas well reserved on the 40 acres given to Lena Walker, and by
reason her share is more valuable that that of any of the other childen,
Mrs. Bridges is required to pay the estate $1000; to Walter D. Addison,
son, 40 acres; to Austin P. Addison, son, 40 acres; to grandsons, Ernest
A. White and Paul K. White, the tract of land in Jackson township not heretofore
set apart. John W. Addison, son, is named executor."
The article next mentions a first Codicil, stating that on August 8, 1919
Mr. Addison made said codicil to his will and said codicil revoked the
gift to his son, John W. Addison, and devised the property given him in
the will to the grandsons, Ernest and Paul White. He also revoked the bequest
made in the will to the grandsons Ernest and Paul White, and gave that
real estate to the son, John W. Addison. It was noted this appeared to
be merely an excange of bequests. Mr. Sowerwine and Mr. Staley were witnesses
to the codicil signature, according to the article.
The Second Codicil to the Will was signed on September 16, 1922, in the
presence of Mr. Sowerwine and Mr. Staley, and in this codicil, the bequest
of the gas well to the daughter, Mrs. Bridges, was revoked and taken back
by Mr. Samuel Addison.
The Third Codicil to the Will was signed on March 8, 1928. It was witnessed
by Mr. Staley and Lucy Manlove. In this Codicil, Mr. Addison bequeathed
"to Simmons Cemetery in Jackson Township, the sum of $500 to be held as
a perpetual fund, the earnngs of which are to be used toward support of
the cemetery."
