THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday October 2, 1930, Volume
LIV, Number 48, Page 5, Column 1, "DEATH'S HARVEST-JESSE BORUFF, PIONEER
OWENSBURG TEACHER DEAD." [Transcribed on January 29, 2008 by RLJ from microfilm of
the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.]
The funeral services for Jesse BORUFF, who for forty years taught in the public schools of
Greene County, were held at 2:30 o'clock last Sunday afternoon at Owensburg at the
Methodist Church, with the Rev. Logan HATFIELD officiating. Interment in Owensburg
Cemetery.
The I. O. O. F. and Red Men had charge of the services at the cemetery. Mr. BORUFF was a
member of both organizations.
He died early Saturday morning, suffering from a stroke of paralysis a few weeks ago and
never regained consciousness.
He was born in Jackson Township and was left an orphan at the age of eleven years. He did
not enter school until he was nineteen years of age, but he was able to learn rapidly and
soon had acquired a position as teaching and he continued teaching until a few years ago
when he retired.
Surviving are the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Von FORDYCE and Mrs. Josephine WARD of
Bedford, and a son, Oscar BORUFF, who is principal of the Owensburg schools. A son
preceded Mr. BORUFF in death.
He was highly respected and was a member of one of the pioneer families of Jackson
Township. He had a wide circle of friends and this was attested by the large attendance
at his funeral.
