I don't want to get in the middle of this Boruff/ Bogenrief debate but I will discuss
a few things I've found in my research.
Johan Simon Bogenrief was born 1709 in Bayern, Pfalz, Niederhochstadt, Germany. He was
christened 6 Mar 1709 in Bayern, Pfalz, Niederhochstadt, Germany. He died Sep 1782 in
Berks County, Pennsylvania. Came to America on Ship name: Davy ,U.S. arrival date:
25 Oct 1738 Port : Philadelphia, PA Place of origin : Niederhoc hstadt , Hochstadt
Source : The Hochstadt Origins of Some of the Early Settlers at Host Ch . I found
several other Bogenriefs in Germany in the 1700s&1800s. All were within a 20 mile
radius of Niederhochstadt.
I have a copy of Johan Simon's will and he had sons named Simon , Martin, and
Valentine. Simon had a son named Valentine who was born in 1774.
Martin was born 15 Apr 1745, and died 11 Apr 1797 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County,
Pennsylvania. He was buried in the St. Michaels Lutheran Church Cemetery. This is the
same Martin that appears as Martin Boruff in the 1790 census.
