Frank Richard Rankins, 86, Katy, Texas, formerly of Hemlock, went home to be with the Lord
at 3:07 p.m. Dec. 7, 2010, at the home of his daughter in Katy, Texas.
He was born in Dugger, Ind., to John and Edna Jane Rankins. He married Mary Janet Shanklin
on Nov. 8, 1943, and she survives. They were married 68 years. He worked at Continental
Steel for 30 years.
While living in Hemlock, he was active in church, Golden Agers and Kiwanis. He also served
in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received ribbons and a Bronze Star.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, Richard and wife Jureda Rankins, Kokomo,
James and wife Sharon Rankins, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Michael and wife Janet Rankins,
Versailles, Mo.; two daughters, Pamela and husband Gary Blake, Katy, Texas, and Rebekah
and husband Doug Hartley, Tallahassee, Fla.; one daughter-in-law, Edna Rankins, Kokomo.
He had 16 grandchildren, Paul and Danny Rankins, of Indiana; Jennifer and husband John
Pierson, Christopher and wife Stephine Ogle, Brad and wife Esther Ogle, of Tennessee; Joe
and wife Joyce Gilland, Adrienne McIntosh, Jason and wife Dori Blake, Robert and Rebecca
Weaver, of Texas; Stanley and wife Malinda, of Iowa; Eli and wife Jackie Rankins, of Ohio;
Brian Rankins, of California; Scott Rankins, of Missouri; Dustin Carstenson, of Maine;
Amanda Hartley, of Florida; and Brandon and wife Ashley Hartley, of Illinois. He also had
16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, John Rankins, Dugger; and one
sister, Kathleen Kirton, Sullivan, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Abraham and Cranston Rankins; one
granddaughter; two brothers; one sister; and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 29 and services will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 30 at
Memorial Oaks funeral home in Houston, Texas.
