According to information about the beginning of the Fairview Cemetery, from
"Cemeteries of Western Greene County, Indiana, Volume III" compiled and prepared
by Loraine E. Kraus for the Greene County Historical Society (which contains burial
listings for Fairview), the initial 6 acres of land for the cemetery was purchased for
$240 from Joseph and Adalia Letterman in the late 1800s.
There is an older cemetery called "Old Linton" Cemetery which is much smaller
than Fairview. There's no information included about when or how it came to be
established, however.
You might want to contact the Greene County Historical Society to see if they have further
information available about these cemeteries. Also, their website is at the following URL:
http://greenecountyhistoricalsociety.org/
Hope this helps some! :)
