George Cassner (Casner, Kasner) who was killed in 1863 during Civil War and had previously
resided in Green County, Indiana (ie enumerated there in 1860 census) was son of Andrew
and Margaret Meredith Kasner of Coshocton County, Ohio. George Kasner was born in 1806
(probably near the Coshocton/Muskingum County line in Ohio and was the grandson of John
and Susanna Kasner (Kassner, Cassner, Casner, Casnor, Cashner). John and Susanna are my
gggg grandparents and were buried at Oak Grove Methodist (Redbush) Cemetery in rural
Whitley County, Indiana. George Kasner's known siblings were Elizabeth Kasner Neff,
Ruth Kasner Cullison, and Stephen Casner. George's known uncles were Michael Casner
(my ggg grandfather) John Casner (we call him junior to distinquish from his father John
Kasner) and Daniel Kasner. John Kasner most likely immigrated to
Belmont/Muskingum/Coshocton Counties in Ohio from Bedford County, PA. John Kasner settled
in Washington Township, Coshocton County, Oh!
io in about 1812 and farmed there until shortly after the 1850 census when he and Susanna
migrated to Whitley County, Indiana. John died in 1857 after Sussanna's death in
1853. John was born in 1773 and Susanna was born in 1779. For your information, I have
used the spelling of the last name as I believe each individual believed (that opinion is
based on the documents I've examined). The Kasner (Casner, Kassner)family appears to
have extremely close relationships with Wolford and Holloway families. Any questions or
help would be appreciated. I'm unable the provide any further info on the origin or
background of John and Susanna Kasner.
Charles Casner
