Reed A. LETSINGER, 75-year-old native of Bloomfield, passed away at his home on West Main
Street at 4:20 o'clock Monday afternoon, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Bloomfield on October 19, 1881, and was the son of Harvey W. and Mary
(CUSHMAN) LETSINGER. He attended Bloomfield schools, and following his graduation from
Bloomfield High School, he attended and graduated from DePauw University, where he was a
member of Delta Upsilon social fraternity. Later he obtained his law degree from Indiana
University School of Law, and practiced law in Bloomfield with his father. He was a
former school teacher, having taught in Edwardsport, Lyons and Jasonville, and a former
bookkeeper for the LETSINGER COAL COMPANY. He was interested in farming and visited his
farms as long as health permitted.
The deceased was a member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge and the Methodist Church.
Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Etna (PHILLIPS) LETSINGER; two daughters, Mrs. Catherine
MILLETT, of Oxford, Ohio, and Mrs. Elizabeth ARENDSHORST, of Holland Michigan; two sons,
Richard LETSINGER, of Bloomington, and Robert L. LETSINGER, a Northwestern University
professor, now in Germany, on a fellowship; one brother, Leo LETSINGER, of Bloomfield, and
13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John Harvey, in 1951.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the local
Methodist Church. Rev. A. W. JARBOE officiated, and burial, in charge of Jenkins &
Sons, was made in Grandview Cemetery.
Acting pallbearers at the services were Orval HUNTER, Lavon HILL, Elmer KIRBY, Leland
BARKLEY, Daniel G. BYNUM and Marvin WILSON. Honorary pallbearers were Orval CAIN, E. Kirby
ASHCRAFT, John HUMPHREYS, Daniel A. BYNUM, Allie WORKMAN and Ernest GOODWIN.
