THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, December 1, 1932,
Volume LVII, Number 5, Page 1, Column 6, 'Aged Woman Dies At Elnora Home.'
[Transcribed on April 15, 2008 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in
the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.]
Mrs. Elmira PORTER, one of Daviess County's oldest residents, died at her home at
Elnora Monday evening at six o'clock. General debility caused her death. For about
four years she had been confined to her bed. Mrs. PORTER would have been ninety-three
years old December 27.
Mrs. PORTER was born in Washington County, near Salem, December 27, 1839, the daughter of
Joel MCCLELLAND, a cousin of General George B. MCCLELLAND, civil war soldier. She was
first married to John STUFFLE and they lived most of their life in Martin County, near
Burns City. They became the parents of twelve children, all of whom are now deceased.
Mr. STUFFLE passed away and in 1900 she was married to George PORTER. He died in 1914.
Surviving Mrs. PORTER are three step-sons, Dr. McGuire PORTER, of Elnora; Dr. G. PORTER,
of Linton, and Dr. Thomas J. PORTER, of Trinity Springs.
Funeral services were held at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Elnora Christian
church with the Rev. Mr. ZETSCHE in charge. Burial was made in the Burns City Cemetery.

Note-RLJ: A George PORTER married an Almira OSBORNE in 1900, however, could not locate
Almira STUFFLE.
