Mathew,
Thank you for the Ashcraft information. The information I have about
the children of Mary Ann Ashcraft and Samuel Lancaster came from a
letter their daughter, Ella Lancaster Mayhan, wrote in 1961 when she was
91 years old and from my grandmother, Helen Fletcher Collins.
Ella Lancaster Mayhan wrote that Samuel and Mary Ann Lancaster had 11
children, four boys and seven girls and that all but her had died. She
also said Samuel Lancaster's parents and brothers and sisters were all
born in Kentucky and moved to Indiana near Owensburg on what they called
Kentucky Ridge when Samuel was three years old.
Helen Fletcher Collins recalled the names of seven of Samuel and Mary
Ann Lancaster's children:
- Artie Lancaster (born about 1869)
- Ella Lancaster (born August 24, 1870, died 1969)
- Bessie Lancaster
- Daisy Lancaster
- Roscoe "Blackie" Lancaster
- Wealtha Lancaster
- Celestia A. Lancaster
Let me know if you want more information about Samuel Lancaster's
parents and siblings. By the way, I enjoyed perusing your web page
which contained many of the surnames in which I am interested.
