I am researching my grandfather Forest Stewart WALL born Feb. 20,1891 in
Kentucky and my grandmother Ida Pearl PAYNE born Nov 24, 1898 in
Kentucky. The Payne's moved to Indiana about 1904 and the Wall's I am
not sure when they moved there but they were living there in 1910. I of
course would like to get more information on these two families but
would also like to know the following: Where were Grant twp. and
Stockton twp. located? The Payne's lived in Grant twp. and the Wall's
were in Stockton twp. I noticed on the 1910 census that almost everyone
in Stockton twp. worked in a mine. (Including Forest and two of his
brothers)What was the name of the mine? Where was the mine located and
where can I find info. on it? I would like to know things like what the
wages and conditions were, etc. The census lists the following: Ida
Wall 49-Head-Married 29 years-8children 5 living. No husband is
listed. Don't know if he abandoned them but I would think she would be
a widow if he had died. Children listed:
Morton 21 miner
Forest 18 driver in coal mine
McKinley H. 15 trapper in coal mine
Bertie (daughter) 12 in school
The Payne's lived in Grant twp. and Ulysses Grant (he used Euell)Payne
38, born in Arkansas, married 15 years, worked for the railroad as a
laborer. It is listed as car.rep.RR. What does that stand for? His
wife was Mary Ellen Johnson Payne, 31,born in Kentucky, 8 children 5
living. Children: William 13
Ida 11
Lela 8
Pansy 6
Edna 4
I would appreciate any information you can provide. Thanks, Julie Wall
