Hi!
I am a new member of this list. I am trying to sort out the families of
Bowling/Bolin/Bolen//Bolling in Greene Co. These families may be alll
related and simply show spelling variations.
Does anyone know anything about the family of Pernetta "Netty" BRISCOE,
widow of Joseph BRISCOE? She lived in Greene Co in 1850 and 1860s. Netty
said to be the sister of Martha (Williams) BOWLING. Netty (WILLIAMS) was
first married to Benjamin LANKFORD
Also I am looking for all information on Martha (WILLIAMS) BOWLING, widow of
the Revolutionary War veteran Joseph BOWLING. He was born in 1753,
enlisted in 1777 in VA, was discharged in 1780 in PA and made his way
through TN and KY to IN by 1820. Martha was his 2nd wife and they were
married in Madison Co, KY around 1815-1818. He was in his 60s and she in her
30s.
They had one son, William born in IN abt 1819-1820. He resided in Orange
Co, IN. Joseph BOWLING lived in several of the IN counties listed below
before he died in Orange co, IN in 1836.
I am trying to find out Joseph's relationship to all of the other families
named Bowllen/Bowling/Bolen etc. in the Indiana counties of Clay, Owen,
Greene Orange, Crawford, Washington and Harrison.
Martha BOWLING was awarded a widow's pension and Bounty Land in 1859.
I have not been able to find where this land was and the National Archives
file on this is incomplete. She lived with her (step?) daughter Sarah
'Sally' (BOWLING) STONE, wife of Enoch Solomon STONE, in Greene Co, bt I
have not been able to find her on the Greene Co census with them. Martha
was still alive in Dec of 1859 and should have been on the census in 1850
and 1860.
Does anyone has access to land records showing Martha BOWLING as owning
land in Greene Co.? Or having an estate settlement after 1859?
Thanks---any info on these families will be appreciated.
