Jim,
After seeing at least three of your postings on the porn or smut subject
(and nothing about it at other mailing lists), I spent an hour searching and
have not been able to confirm from 'any' Internet source that a large number
of people's e-mail addresses are falsely being used as the 'source' for
sending pornography, or anything else for that matter. (I do find a lot
about hoaxes.) The only way I can think of how this could be done is to
'copy/paste' a person's e-mail 'name and address,' separately, at the
bottom
of an e-mail (like I have done below with yours, just for an example.) Even
so, the 'real' sender's name/address is prominently shown, or can be found
under 'properties' of the message to show its true source (as you can do
with my message), *without* having any special 'Spam Cop' or similar
software. Possibly this is another hoax started to create a bunch of spam
e-mail's that explain and complain about the hoax?? Or, to create a bunch
of spam 'disclaimer' e-mails -- possibly with intentions to sell anti-spam
software?? Can you tell me of 'any' Internet site that tells *specifically*
of a problem about pornographic e-mails being sent with another person's
name/address as the sender?? A person simply stating this happened, without
knowing all of the details and particulars, doesn't necessarily mean it
indeed happened the way it is described, or that this is a common problem.
Thanks for any input. I hate hoaxes!!

Jim, this message is really sent by Neil McDonald, macbd1(a)arthur.k12.il.us ,
and it required a little time for me to copy/paste your name and address
above as the 'sender.' I'd hate to think a person would take the time
necessary to do this 1,000 times, or even 100 or 10 -- with no gainful
purpose except of a negative nature to hurt another's reputation -- unless
the 'real' purpose is to advertise and potentially sell anti-spam software.

You can find a number of postings on the INGreene roots web site and the
ONeall site in regards mail being sent under someone elses name. The SPAM
COP program is free as his SPAM BUSTER, both from ZDNET.
And yes there was an article on ZD net in the last week or so that someone
referenced to on the INGreene site I will look for it and send it to you.
And in regards to clicking on the properties to find out who sent you the
e-mail, if you can manipulate the headers in that window your a pretty good
hacker.
