THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, March 22. 1923,Volume
XLVII, Number 19, Page 8, Columns 2, “DEATH’S HARVEST—SIMS.” [Transcribed April 27, 2004
from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County
Public Library.]
Nancy A., daughter of Nathaniel and Coley MALICOAT, was born near White Hall, Owen
County, May 30, 1848, and departed this life at Dugger, {Sullivan County,} Indiana
February 16, 1923, at the age of seventy-four years, eight months and seventeen days.
She was one of a family of eight children all of whom have preceded her except one
brother and one sister.
Her parents came here from Tennessee in the early days.
She was married to James M. SIMS in June of 1866. To this union twelve children were
born, and all lived to be grown. Alonzo, Emma and Mrs. Amanda Arminta RAPER have preceded
her. Those left to mourn her departure are: Aaron, of Barton, Illinois; Marion, of
Dugger; Mitchell, of Borton, Illinois; Mrs. Hattie BROWN, of McVille; Homer, of
Worthington; Rev. Charles SIMS, of Bloomfield; Mrs. Mel BOLTZ, of Dugger; Coy E., of
Dugger, and Mrs. Frank TERRELL, of Bloomfield. There are also twenty-seven grandchildren,
seventeen great-grandchildren and one brother, Joel MALICOAT, of near Spencer; Jiney
CHRISTY, of Romona, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Her husband preceded her eleven years ago last July.
She, with her husband, was converted and joined the Baptist church some fifty-years
ago. She had strong faith in her Savior, and grew stronger in her faith as she neared her
eternal home. She often expressed her desire to go home and be with her companion and
loved ones.
She was a loyal mother, a good neighbor and true Christian; always for that which was
right.
She bore her suffering patiently, and ever trusted in the Lord, and was willing to
submit to His will.
She was taken to her home church at Salem, near Spencer, Sunday morning, and funeral
services were conducted by Rev. Ollie HAWKINS, of that place, after which she was gently
laid to rest beside her husband in the family lot, there to wait till the trumpet of the
Lord shall sound, when all those that are in their graves shall come forth.
