William Franklin CHIPMAN, 77 year-old, well-known resident of Bloomfield, passed away at
his home at 7:35 o’clock Monday morning. He had been in failing health for the past nine
years.
The son of Frank and Ellen (SHERTZER) CHIPMAN, he was born in Richland Township on
February 8, 1874. He had been engaged in carpentering most of his life, and had resided
in Bloomfield for the past 30 years. Prior to that, he had spent some time in Kansas,
Nebraska and Canada before returning here to make his home. He was a member of the first
Methodist Church.
Surviving him are the wife, Mrs. Ada (HACKETHORN) CHIPMAN; his 98-year-old father, of
Bloomfield; one daughter, Mrs. Thelma BARROWS, of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Clarence
CHIPMAN, of Worthington, and Robert CHIPMAN, of Bloomfield, three sisters, Mrs. Edith
EMERY, and Mrs. Ida STALCUP, of Bloomfield, and Mrs. Maude DRAKE, of Bloomington. He is,
also survived by a granddaughter.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Methodist
Church, with the Rev., L. D. ROBERTSON officiating. Music was provided by the church
choir, with Mrs. John CUSHMAN as organist. Pallbearers were Sherrill HASLER, Ward
WARNICK, John AUSMAN, Carl GRIFFITH, Elmer KIRBY and A. L. SEIPLE.
Burial was in Grandview Cemetery, with the Lester Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in
charge of final arrangements.
