THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Friday, March 29, 1907, Volume
XXXI, Number 19, Page 1, Column 6, “OBITUARY—Fellows.” [Transcribed 28 Jan 2002 from
Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm Records.]
Mrs. Celestia FELLOWS, who spent many years of her life at different points in Greene
County, died March 8 at Los Angeles, California, to which city she moved about three years
ago.
She was the widow of John D. FELLOWS, and they were respected and honored pioneers of this
county, residing in the early days near Mineral, in Taylor Township, and later at
Worthington.
They were married in 1846. To celebrate the wedding event it was thought that a turkey
dinner would be appropriate. Accordingly Henry BAKER, now an honored citizen of
Worthington, and his younger brother were engaged to furnish the fowls. So they caught
and dressed two fine turkeys receiving for the two the sum of twenty-five cents.
At the time of her death, Mrs. FELLOWS was eighty-two years of age. She had been
apparently in excellent health, but she sustained a stroke of apoplexy and lived but an
hour after she was stricken.
Her remains were cremated.
Mrs. FELLOWS was a life-long friend of Mrs. E. J. ROUTT, of this place.
