Hi!
I've been researching my family, and my husband's. His is pretty
much in Greene County, however mine seem to be bouncing around all over
the place. I've been searching for them in Pike County, and finding
them everywhere else.
My great grandparents, Frank & Bell (West) Lee were married in
Petersburg, Pike Co, in 1893. They had four children, three of whom
were living, in the 1900 census in Clay Twp Pike County (Ralph Abraham,
Ervin Roscoe, and Claude O - two girls died: Essie and Alice). They
stayed there until sometime between 1907 (female child born - Della) and
1910. The youngest child, Fanny, was born in 1910 in Madison County,
IN, where Frank died (Anderson 1911) of cancer. At least Fanny was
raised by the Bronnenburg Children's Home in Madison county. Isabelle
(Bell) remarried three times, outliving each of them. She died in
Middletown, Henry County, IN. Her obit reads "Elizabeth" instead of
Isabelle.
Now, why they came north, we don't know. We cannot find parents for
William "Frank" Franklin Lee. He was born in 1870. Isabelle was the
child of Isaac and Elizabeth (Hartwell Dejarnett) West, born in 1868.
In 1876, both Isaac and Elizabeth died, and Isabelle went to live with
her Brother-in-law and sister, Robert and Sarah (West) Willis. For the
1880 census, there were 6 children of the marriage plus Isabelle in the
home. Clay Twp, Pike County. A brother, John West, was in Oatville or
Oakville in 1936 when Isabelle died.
Since the county lines were moved around here and there, I'm hoping
that maybe someone in Greene County will recognize this line and respond
with favorable news.
Also, my husband's line includes Harrison Jackson. While
researching in Pike Co., we discovered that he had been awarded
guardianship of an unnamed ward - anyone know who that ward was, or why
it happened?
Thank you for any and all help!
Donna (Clem) Arthur
