Does any of this help? Denise in California
Denise,
Thank you so much for checking. William Bough, son of John A. and Sarah
(Workman) Bough died on January 10, 1929. I found his death record and
obit at Greene County, Indiana. I had hoped the obit would mention the
whereabouts of Henry Noah Bough, William's putative brother, but it did not.
John A.Bough, son of Fredrick and Rebecca (Sexton) Bough, had a brother
named William. That William died on May 29, 1908, in Richalnd Township,
Greene County, Indiana. His obit appeared in the Bloomfield Democrat on
June 4, 1908, page 1. It read as follows:
"Capt. William Bough passed away from the infirmities of old age at his
home on Franklin Street, Bloomfield, about 4 o'clock last Friday morning,
aged 84 years 6 months and 15 days.
"He was born in Kentucky, November 14, 1823, and came with his parents to
Greene county, Indiana, in 1827, where he resided until his death. He was
married to Mary Ann Huffman in 1845 who died in 1881. About 18 years he
was married to Mrs. J. C. Turley who survives him. He is also survived by
V. T. Bough of Greene Gounty, and two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Donaldson of
Illinois and Mrs. Sarah J. Howard of Kansas.
"In 1846 Capt. Bough enlisted as a soldier in the Mexican War, joining the
2nd Regiment of the Indiana Volunteers, and was in service 13 months. He
was in the battles of Monterey and Buena Vista being severely wounded in
the shoulder in the latter place. In 1861 he enlisted in the Civil War in
co. C, 21st Indiana Volunteers, under Capt. Rose and was commissioned First
Lieutenant from the beginnning and when Capt. Rose resigned he was made
Captain and was afterwards changed to heavy artillery. He was mustered out
January 11, 1866, having served his county 4 years, 6 months, and 5 days...
"Although he had no children, he helped and provided a home for about 10
children and with the deepest gratitute they remembered him.
"He was a member of the Christian Church about 10 years and during his long
life he was faithful and consistent. He was patient in his long sickness
and expressed hemself as only waiting for God to take him home...
"The funeral service was conducted from his late residence by J. A. Spencer
last Saturday at 3 PM and the interment was made in Bloomfield, the burial
service being made in charge of G. A. R.
