24, 2005 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern
Greene County Public Library.]
Mrs. Alice HARRAH, wife of Hiram HARRAH, died at the family home in the north part of town
this morning (Thursday) at 5:15 o’clock after an illness of five days, the result of a
stroke of apoplexy.
She was suddenly stricken last Friday evening at 7 o’clock while entertaining a neighbor
and in a few minutes was unconscious and never regained consciousness. She had been
apparently in her usual health and that day had seemed especially well and cheerful
She was born April 4, 1851; died August 25, 1904; aged 53 years, 4 months and 21 days.
Her maiden name was DANHOUR and she was born and raised in Putnam County, Indiana.
She was united in marriage to Hiram HARRAH October 1, 1871. A few years ago they came to
Bloomfield to make this their home for the remainder of their days.
She united with the Presbyterian Church when a mere girl and about five years ago she and
her husband joined the C. P. Congregation at Camp Ground.
She was very quiet and unassuming in manner and did not often leave home. She was a woman
of intelligence possessed of many virtues and was esteemed by those who knew her.
Besides a husband, one sister and two brothers are left to mourn. The sister, Mrs. Will
SHIELDS, of Putnamville, and one brother, John DANHOUR, of Huey, Illinois were at her
bedside when she died. The other brother, Elias DANHOUR, resides at Putnamville. The
husband has the sympathy of the community in his sudden bereavement.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the C.
P. Church and will be in charge of Rev. E. B. JOHNSON. Interment in the Bloomfield
Cemetery.
