Surname: Anderson, Young, Turner, Bryant, Cravens, Cavins, Downing
-------------------------
Looking for William ANDERSON, dob abt 1819 in KY, son of William and Mary
YOUNG. William has a brother, Samuel Y. whose dob is abt 1827, and both
brothers married TURNER girls in 1847 in Greene Co. Both brothers are on
the 1850 census. MY DILEMMA: There is a William Anderson who served in
the 59th Reg. Co. E IN Vols (I have the entire file) and he fits MY Wm
Anderson, almost. The differences: The Company E William is married in
Aug 1851 to Nancy Jane Bryant in Jefferson Co., TN, and they have a son
James S. who was born Dec. 18, 1874,attended by Dr. Samuel C. Cravens.
Perhaps Nancy Turner died and he married another Nancy? The ages of both
Williams work out the same for his birth: 1819.
Per the pension file, William suffered the usual bad health from the Civil
War, most debilitating was his diahhrea which the Dr. prescribed something
called "Aconite" which was supposed to help him, but died from it instead.
There was a coroner's inquest and affidavits attesting to his good character,
with one exception from Ira Jones who claimed Wm. was drunk when he took
a swallow of the Aconite, dying within 10 minutes, and Jones felt Wm. had
"killed himself"....and Jones' affidavit was signed "Yours for
Justice".
One significant affidavit was signed by John G. Anderson who lived next
door to EHL Cavins, (my William had an older brother John G. [dob 1815]
but nowhere does it say he is the brother of William).
1850 Census shows my Wm Anderson living in Richland Twp with wife Nancy
who was born in TN and children Cyress age 2 and William age 1. The pension
file indicates that Wm lived in Worthington and/or Bloomfield and died
1 Feb. 1887. William Anderson and wife Nancy J. are buried in the Worthington
Cemetery. My William also had a sister, Lycenia Downing who was the mother-in-law
to EHL Cavins. Are there two Williams, or one? arenfro(a)worldaccessnet.com
