THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Friday, May 7, 1909, Volume
XXXIII, Number 26, Page 4, Column 4, “DEATH’S HARVEST. Mills.” [Transcribed on December
28, 2005 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern
Greene County Public Library.]
Mrs. Sarah (MILAM) MILLS was born in Greene County, Indiana, near Bloomfield, May 31,
1829, died May 1, 1909, aged seventy-nine years, eleven months and one day.
At the age of six years, she, with her parents, moved to Bloomington where she attended
school and in 1845 her parents moved to Braysville, Owen County, Indiana.
She became a member of the M. E. church at the age of seventeen and was a constant and
devoted Christian.
She was united in marriage to John Y. MILLS October 20, 1847, and to which union were born
seven children—six daughters and one son—six of whom are living, and all are married—Mrs.
B. T. MCHALEY, Rankin, Illinois; Mrs. L. F. RITTER, Martinsville, Indiana; John T. MILLS,
Plummer, Indiana; Mrs. Dr. GOSS, Freedom; Mrs. Lewis LAYMON, Plummer; Martha A. MILLS,
deceased, and Mrs. J. C. CHURCH, Olivet, Michigan.
Her husband preceded her to the great beyond.
She had for several years made her home with her only son, and about three years had been
a sufferer from that terrible disease, cancer, which caused her death. She bore her
suffering patiently and said she was ready to go.
She leaves her six children, a number of grandchildren, one brother in Kansas and a host
of friends to mourn her departure.

We desire to extend our heartfelt thanks for the many acts of kindness shown us by
neighbors and friends in our late sad bereavement in the sickness and death of our
mother.
JOHN T. MILLS AND FAMILY.
