Obituary, The Washington Weekly Telegraph, Washington, Indiana, May 25, 1860, page 2:
"OBITUARY
DIED, at his late residence in Newberry, Greene county, Ind., on the 29th of April,
Frederick Slinkard, aged 64 years, 2 months and 14 days.
He was born in North Carolina, and emigrated to Indiana in 1820, where he became an early
settler of Green county, and took an active part in promoting the welfare of his county.
He was married to Catharine Skomp in 1825, with whom he lived in peace and love, until his
demise. After an illness of about four weeks, which he bore with true Christian
fortitude, he fell asleep in the triumph of living faith. He was a worthy citizen, and an
esteemed member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. In his death the family lost a kind
father and husband, the Church a bright ornament, and community a valuable citizen. W. B.
