THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, March 24, 1938, Volume
LXII, Number 21, Page 8, Column 3, “DEATH’S HARVEST. WILLIAMS.” [Transcribed January 31,
2004 from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene
County Public Library.]
Becky WILLIAMS, third of nine children, born to William O. BAIRD and wife, Margaret (KING)
BAIRD, April 24, 1877, near Scotland, and died at her home here near Park, in early
morning of March 10, 1938, aged sixty years, ten months and sixteen days.
She was married to Byron WILLIAMS, March 26, 1910, and moved into the house where she
died. Their marriage was a very happy one and his death which occurred February 26, 1930,
left her a very lonely woman.
In her girlhood she united with the Christian church at Taylor Ridge, under the preaching
of Rev. LACKEY, and all her life was a firm believer in the doctrines of this church,
although distance deprived her of the privilege of attending its services often.
Becky had been in failing health for some time, but last fall pneumonia developed and
complications set in from which she never recovered. At the insistence of relatives and
neighbors she went to a sanitarium at Martinsville for treatment; her health improved for
a time, but she soon suffered a relapse. All through her sickness she was patient,
uncomplaining, fearful lest helping friends overexert themselves for her sake. In health
she was a good kind neighbors, good in sickness, and industrious worker and a careful
manager.
She leaves to mourn her departure a brother, William BAIRD, who has been untiring in his
attentions during her sickness and death; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie AUTREY, near Lyons;
Mrs. Mina LONG, near Clifty; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ida WILLIAMS, besides a number of
nieces and nephews, and more distant relatives and a host of neighbors and friends. She
will be laid to rest here beside her husband in the little silent city beside the church.
