The first 3 digits is for the region' the second 2 digits is for
the
specific area you live in. The last 4 are your identifiers
001 is the New York and eastern seaboard prefix; 600 is the west coast.
Note: before the law requiring children to have a SS# came into play a set
of pseudo numbers were used within certain government agencies until the
real SS# was issued. It is possible that in some circumstances, the pseudo
SS# is all that is available. If my memory serves me, these numbers
started
with 660-00-0000.
