This book has no cover, and no index, and no author. I bought it on Ebay; it just has the
insides, but it is full of Indiana biographies. I am not researching this family, just
thought I would share. I do not know anymore about these families or these surnames. NOTE:
I don’t know if there is any additional mention of this family in the book, it has no
index. I do not want to sell this book. I am typing the biographies from it.

Fred H. MADDOX, postmaster of Lyons, has lived in Greene County all his life and has had
many interesting relationships with the business and civic activities of his home
community. Mr. Maddox is a very talented man, an able musician, and well deserves all the
esteem paid him. He was born, October 8, 1875, on a farm near Bloomfield, Greene County,
Indiana, son of Lorenzo and Cynthia A. (Green) Maddox. His grandfather, John Maddox, came
from Kentucky and was one of the early settlers of Southern Indiana. He was highly
educated and had one of the best private libraries in the state. Lorenzo Maddox was a boy
when brought from Kentucky. He taught school in Greene County, followed farming, and for a
few years was in the grocery business at Bloomington, Monroe County. He served with the
Indiana Home Guards and saw some active service during the Morgan raid through the
southern part of the state. Lorenzo Maddox and his wife had six children: William F., who
married Corda Dye; Curt!
is B., deceased; Viola, who became the wife of John A. Young; Fred H.; Etta E., wife of
Lome D. Bixler; and Elva, widow of James B. Gibson. Fred H. Maddox attended the common
schools of Greene County, took work in the county normal at Worthington and Lyons, and
also attended the Indiana State Normal at Terre Haute. For seven years he was engaged in
school teaching in Greene County, spending his vacation periods in preparatory work in the
normal schools. For about twelve years he was a rural mail carrier, that being his first
experience in the postal service. Afterwards he was bookkeeper for the J. L. Morgan
Elevator Company at Lyons and for the Central Indiana Coal Company at Dugger until he was
made postmaster of Lyons. His first appointment in 1925, and he was reappointed by
President Hoover in 1929. Mr. Maddox as a musician has done some successful work as an
instructor and director of bands and orchestras, and in developing musical talent in
children. He is a member of !
the Christian Church and is affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and
Knights of Pythias. Mr. Maddox married, June 18, 1930, at Linton, Indiana, Miss
Winifred Humphreys, of Linton, daughter of William F. and Ellen C. (Dana) Humphreys.
