Stanley PORTER, son of John and Harriett (JACKSON) PORTER was born in their humble home
southwest of Owensburg on January 17, 1895 and departed this life on May 2, 1944 age 49
years 3 months and 15 days.
He was united in marriage to Ruby ROBERTS, August 8, 1922. To this union were born four
children, namely: Mrs. LaVera BRUMMET, Mrs. Phyllis PORTER, Frederick PORTER and Robert
Lee PORTER. All of Owensburg.
He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, namely Dick PORTER of Kokomo,
Indiana, Lt.
Peck PORTER of Camp Upton, New York, Mrs. Ora STAGGERS and Mrs. Hobart FIELDS, of
Jeffersonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, also his brother Pete D. PORTER and an infant
sister. Stanley’s only living aunt and uncle are Mrs. Sarah Webster of Bedford, Indiana
and Charles PORTER of Bloomfield, Indiana. He also has three nephews, James and John
STAGGERS and Dale PORTER in the armed forces.
He also has two grandchildren Charles Roger BRUMMET and Diana Faye BRUMMET.
Stanley served his country honorably in World War 1, from April 1917 to April 1918. He
also was a member of the Owensburg Baptist Church and always faithfully attended its
services.
As a father and husband he was always concerned more about his family than about himself
and although in failing health and much more serious than anyone thought, toiled
faithfully to maintain them to the best of his ability.
To his friends he was always cheerful and joked with them while the hounds were out of
hearing and the little groups will miss him now when they gather on the hillsides, for his
greatest hobby was his fox chases.
Now this mortal life is over.
