Dearest mother, thou hast left us
For a better world above,
Where no sorrow ever enters,
But all is joy and love,
We will miss thee,
Oh we’ll miss thee,
But ‘tis only for a time
When we’ll all get home together
In that far and happy clime.

Had he asked us,
Well we know,
We should say,
Oh spare the blow.
Yes, with streaming tears should pray,’
Lord we love her, let her stay.
We’ll miss thy kind and willing hand,
Thy fond and earnest care.
Our home is dark without thee.
We’ll miss thee everywhere.
—
