Late roll-call info:
Joseph and Hannah (CARL or CARROLL) McDannel-McDaniel-McDonald (spelling
variants) moved their family to the Center-Jackson Twp area of Greene Co. IN
about 1836, from Brown Co. OH. Hannah died in 1842, buried in Olliphant
Cemetery, while Joseph died in 1864, apparently the first to be buried in
McDonald-Lewis family cemetery of Center Twp, which was then on the property
of Clifton B. McDonald, located 300 feet or so east of Clifton's log home.
Children of Hannah and Joseph McD were:
Mansfield m. Mary Ann YOUNG in OH 1835.
Rebecca m. Calvin SPARKS in OH 1832.
Permelia m. Thomas FLYNN in Greene Co. IN 1838.
George m. Jane STORM in Greene Co. IN 1839.
Phillip m. Margaret McGILL in Greene Co. IN (Date?)
Sarah Ellen m. Josiah FLYNN Jr. in Greene Co. IN 1848.
Ruie m. Preston MELTON in Greene Co. IN (Date?)
Another son, Clifton B. McDonald b. 1816 OH, was apparently attracted by
excitement of the Ohio River, and/or a young gal, and did not move from Ohio
with his parents in 1836. He married Sarah Jane CLEMENTS in Louisville, KY
in 1846, then traveled overland with his wife and baby to the goldfields of
California in 1849. His wife died of cholera there in 1852 and Clifton
rejoined his family in Greene Co. IN in 1853, bringing his two young
children, Irene (later m. Isaac LEWIS), and Achilles (later m. Sarah CROW),
via sailing vessel and river steam boat from California. Clifton B.
McDonald married Eliza RILEY in 1853 Greene Co. IN, having 10 additional
children: Josephine m. John DYER, Edward m. Manerva CULLISON, Carol (Carl)
m. Nancy Ellen PAYNE (my line), Alfred m. Josephine CROW, Nimrod m. Laura
COLLINGS, William? d. young, Mary Jane m. Samuel SPINKS, Walter G. m. Pearl
WILLIAMS, Joseph d. young and Eugene C. m. Clara HORN. Another son, James
H. McDonald was born 1878 via Clifton's third marriage to Nancy HUDSON after
Eliza RILEY McDonald died in 1876.
I am particularly interested in learning more about the family of
Eliza(beth) Ellen RILEY who married Clifton B. McDonald in 1853. She was
only 16 when marrying Clifton in 1853 and was likely living with her parents
in the Center-Jackson Twp area at the time. Her parents were possibly
Thomas and Adeline RILEY but I do not have confirmation of this.
I will appreciate hearing from any RILEY researchers, or from anyone having
access to 1850 census or other records that might help identify Eliza(beth)
Ellen RILEY.
Thank you,
Neil McDonald
