Neil & Shauna:
I have links to both McDonald and Yockey families referenced in your recent posts
regarding Elizabeth Ellen Riley and Emily Francis Riley. Rebecca (Holmes) Wilson ,the
widow of my Alexander Wilson, was living with second husband, James F. McDonald (McDanold
in 1850 Census) in HH# 240, Jackson Twp. Phillip McDonald( Mc Danold) is HH# 250 in
immediate vicinity and Joseph Mac Donald (McDanold) (58-b.KY) is in this household. What
is the relationship of James F. Mc Donald to these other Mc Donalds ?
In checking my FTM CD#302 "1850 Census Microfilm-Indiana" , there is only one
probable for the Elizabeth Ellen Riley who married Clifton McDonald. All the other Rileys
listed in Greene County are Canal Laborers from Ireland and most not married. In Taylor
Twp., HH#792, there is a George W. Riley
(35-OH)-occupation Miller, with wife Margaret (33-OH). They have a 12 year old female ,
born Ohio in their household named Elazan Riley. The age is about right for being 16
at the time of marriage to Clifton B. McDonald in 1853.
Emily Frances Riley (b1830-KY) who married John M. Yockey in Boone Co.,KY in 1847 was the
mother of Mary Catherine Yockey who married my Jackson Ashcraft in Greene County, Indiana.
She may be linked to the following Kentucky based Rileys in the 1860 Indiana Census for
Greene County, Indiana:
Isham Riley (53-KY), HH# 0813, Center Twp.-- possible father ; with wife Adeline M. Riley
(43-KY) ; nearby in HH# 815, Center Twp. William Riley
(23-KY); and in Jackson Twp. HH# 1690 Branson Riley (34-KY); in Taylor Twp. is George
Riley (65-KY) HH# 1432.
In Jackson Twp. there is also HH#1483 headed by Elza Riley (53-PA) and wife Ann (44-OH).
Next door in HH# 1484 is Nancy Riley (79-VA), probably Elza's mother.
Unfortunately, there is no clear link for Emily to any one of these family groups; but
at least this provides more grist for your mills.
